Dear Mr. Havadjias:
The
board of Directors of the Hellenic University Club
of Southern California
supports the idea of building a cultural center in
Ancient Olympia, Greece, for an Olympic Games Museum
where the
names of all Olympic medalists would be displayed
and facilities to host the medallists at the end
of each
Olympiad or sometime thereafter. We hope this project
can get going as soon as possible and beable to
function in some form by the end of 2004 Athens Games.
We think
it would be a very good way to honor the athletes
and leave a permanent record of their achievement
record
of their achievement inscribed in a place where the
public can view it.
We don't know yet of all the details, such as
size of Banquet Hall, Games Museum, and manner of
inscription of names, but we hope these can be figured
out in time
for The 2008 Games.
We believe that since the Greek government and the
Athens 2004 organization have their hands full at
this time,
this project should be organized and funded by other
sources. As a cultural organization we hope to energize
our membership and the general public in support
of this project.
Sincerely, Peter Demopoulos
President, Hellenic University Club
Of Southern California
